Our Story

The concept of ChattaYak Company was born on the banks of the Chattahoochee River where founders Ray Sprague and Sally Ramsay have been lifetime natives of Phenix City, Alabama, and Columbus, Georgia. The Chattahoochee River, which forms the southern half of the Alabama and Georgia border, serves as a connection to the world. For centuries, the river has been a vital transportation route, connecting major commerce areas of the southeast with the international textile market. It has since remained an engine for commerce and an invaluable resource for recreation.

The natural beauty and power of the river, along with its role in the area’s heritage and development has inspired the imaginations of authors, artists and photographers. ChattaYak Company is inspired by these same attributes. “We, at ChattaYak, are proud of our community and want to help present our city as the best urban whitewater venue in the world, to people everywhere.”  We enlisted Ramsay’s sister, Jill Regan, nationally recognized Pastel Artist in Chicago, Illinois, to join us, and asked if she could use her vivid imagination and creativity to transform their concepts into original artwork. These designs reflect the beauty and grace of, not only the massive energy of the river itself, but also the plants and animals indigenous to Georgia and the Chattahoochee River, as well as the recreational and sporting elements that the river affords.

Chattayak’s high quality casual wear and accessories for the paddle sport enthusiast reflect the historical architecture, unique culture, and warm southern hospitality for which Columbus and the surrounding area are known.
